The first Denny’s location was opened in 1953, in Lakewood, California, under the name “Danny’s Donuts”. It was founded by Richard Jezak and Harold Butler. In 1956 Jezak left the company and one year later, in 1957, the name of the restaurant was changed to “Danny’s Coffee Shop” and opened 24 hours a day. In 1959 the company was renamed “Denny’s Coffee Shop” and in 1961 the name was shortened to “Denny’s”. After that the parent company named “Advantica Restaurant Group, Inc.” was formed. In 2002 it was renamed “Denny’s Corporation”.

In 1963 Denny’s started franchising and the first international location was opened in 1967 in Acapulco, Mexico. In 1992 the company expanded to Canada.

In 2010 Denny’s Corporation signed a deal with Pilot Flying J. and opened new restaurants inside Flying J truck stops, resulting in a great company expansion around the United States of America.

In order to get more franchisees, in 2011 Denny’s started a special program, that had a $100 million loan pool named “The New & Emerging Market Incentive Program”. The first airport location was opened in 2012 as the Las Americas International Airport. Also, this was the first location opened in the Dominican Republic.

The first location in New York City was opened on August 29, 2014, in Lower Manhattan. This location was the only one that offered a more expensive food item. We are talking about the Grand Cru Slam, which costs $300 and was the same as a Grand Slam Breakfast plus a bottle of Dom Perignon.

Nowadays, there are more than 1,700 Denny’s locations all over the United States and other countries around the world including Canada, Guam, Puerto Rico, and others.

Denny’s menu is varied and unique and includes a wide variety of items such as sandwiches, omelets, pancakes, burgers, desserts, fries, and many more. One of the most recommended items is the blueberry pancake, which is topped with strawberries and cream, and served with eggs and bacon. Also, the Bacon and Cheddar Tots are very appreciated. They are made with bacon, cheddar cheese, and potato hash, and come with sour cream. They can be served as a side dish or an appetizer.

Plan on spending anywhere between $3 and $5 for each cold drink, coffee, or tea, while for a smoothie or milkshake, you will have to pay $5 to $7. The price of an appetizer would be $4 to $13, and the all-day breakfast meals are anywhere between $13 and $20. Also, the breakfast sides are priced from $4 to $7 each.

Expect to pay $10 to $15 for each burger and sandwich, and $13 to $20 for a dinner menu. For dessert, you will have to pay $5 to $8.

The ambiance at Denny’s is inviting, warm and classic American. The size of the portions is generous and the staff is very attentive. You will not have to wait too long for your order, but it depends on the time of the day as the peak meal periods tend to be the busiest.
