As you probably already know, Home Depot offers a large variety of doors, for both the indoor and the exterior of buildings, made by popular manufacturers such as Masonite, Jeld-Wen, and Andersen.

If you buy the door directly from Home Depot, they will help you with the installation process. They work with third-party insured installers and you will have to pay a fee for this service.

How Much Does a Door Install Cost at Home Depot?

The door installation price charged by Home Depot is influenced by several factors such as the geographical location, the type of the door, whether it is for interior or exterior, the complexity of the job, and promotions or discounts held at that moment.

According to our research, if you want to receive a quote from Home Depot you will have to set up a meeting with one of their professionals for measurements, and in most cases, this costs around $40. However, as with any other Home Depot professional installation services they offer, this fee will be credited toward the final bill in case you decide to continue the installation job with them.

After you’ve done the measurements, you will have to go to the Home Depot store to talk about your options and look for the door you could buy. Finally, you will receive a finalized installation quote, customized to your needs.

Door InstallationTaking into consideration the factors mentioned above, you should plan on spending anywhere between $110 and $150 for a Home Depot door installation, plus a removal fee of around $20 if the old door can be easily swapped out.

Expect to pay another $85 to $120 in addition to the cost we mentioned before if the door frame needs to be modified or changed in any way. These fees are only for the installation of the door and do not include the cost of the door itself. Please consider the “What are the extra costs?” section below to see what else you need to budget for as many people complain about the fact that they have to pay more than the price presented in the advertisements.

According to a post that Joseph Colangelo made on the Consumers Research website page, the cost to install two storm doors is around $680. This price mark will include the measurement fee which is $40, the cost of two doors which is around $220, the door installation which costs around $260, and the cost of adding trim to the frame during the installation process which is another $160.

On the Interior Door Upgrade website, you can find a detailed guide in which the Lowe’s and Home Depot business models are compared. What you should take out of that article is that, in general, the labor fees start at around $155 per door.

What are the extra costs?

As we already mentioned, the estimates we presented above do not include the price of the door itself, but only the installation costs. The price will vary depending on the type of door you want to buy. In order to get an idea, you will see in the table below the starting price for different types of doors.

Type of Door Starting Point
Sliding Glass Door $400
French Doors $165
Security Door $150
Pocket Door $300
Storm Door $225
French Door $500
Solid-core, Prehung Door $150
Solid-core, Slab Door $80
Hollow-core, Prehung Door $75
Hollow-core, Slab Door $30

You should consider some additional costs if the installer has to repair any part of the door like the door jamb or has to change the swing of the door.

Also, you will be charged extra for the disposal of the old door.

Another extra cost to consider is the price of the new hinges. Depending on the type of hinges, these will cost anywhere between $7 and $20 each, but their installation will usually be free.

Also, you will not have to worry about the cost of a lockset because in most situations this is installed for free during the installation of the door.

Important things to consider

The Home Depot company outsources the door installation services to local, licensed contractors, so everyone’s experience will be different as not all the contractors are the same.

Home Depot’s door installation services have an average of 4.3 stars out of five from most of their reviewers, according to their official website. Plus, around 80% of their previous customers would recommend this service.

The door installation services come with a one-year guarantee.

There are certain types of doors in Home Depot’s stock every time, but there may be some models that require special orders and their delivery takes around 14 days if not more.
