Brand history

The story of Berto’s restaurants starts back in 1964, in San Diego with Roberto “Berto” Robledo and his wife who opened up Roberto’s Taco Shop. This had an extensive menu, a great number of local clients, and a red and yellow sign. This new restaurant became very popular, which determined the appearance of several imitators such as Aliberto’s, Eriberto’s, and others.

Some years later, more precisely in 1988, the Tenario Family took the decision to start their own version of the 24-hour Mexican restaurant in San Diego. It was named “Filiberto’s”, after one of the family’s brothers. They kept what worked over the year: the name, the yellow and red sign, and the large variety of options on the menu.

In 1993 Filiberto’s business expanded to Arizona, opening the first location in Mesa. And so began their tradition in the Valley.
