Brand History

Giordano’s was founded in 1974 by two brothers, Joseph and Efren Boglio, born in Turin, Italy. They were not satisfied with the pizza restaurants available in their area and decided to create their own Italian restaurant in Chicago.

Since then, the company expanded all over the United States, and now you can find more than 65 restaurants in states such as Wisconsin, Arizona, Nevada, Colorado, Ohio, Florida, Minnesota, Iowa, Indiana, and many more.

In 1988 Giordano’s was purchased by the native Greek, John Apostolou, together with his wife Eva. In 1993 he stated in Crain’s Chicago Business that their aim is to expand the pizzeria chain by opening more than 100 new restaurants in the Middle East, Europe, and United States. Though, this aim was never achieved because the Apostolou family went through some financial problems and was forced to sell their commercial real estate assets. So, Giordano’s business was purchased for $52 million by the Chicago private-equity firm Victory Park Capital Advisors LLC.

In the end, in 2011 Giordano’s was auctioned off to a group including the private equity firms Atria Group, Origin Capital, Victory Park, and Bill and George Apostolou, who are the sons of Eva and John Apostolou.
