Gregg’s Restaurants & Tavern Brand history

Gregg’s Restaurants & Tavern was founded in 1972 by the Gregg family by opening their first location in Warwick, Rhode Island. This was and still is a comfortable 130-seat, family-style restaurant with reasonable and affordable prices. Their menu included mainly homestyle soups, deli-style sandwiches, chowder, and various salads. Also, there was a wine/beer menu and a bakery menu.

Over time, the menu expanded and late night breakfast items, daily specials, and dinners were slowly introduced. But the main attraction was their savory desserts, which are made from scratch with the highest quality and freshest ingredients. Also, the seating options have been increased and there was added Take-out Shoppe, as well. So, the clients could buy all of their items to go, including their mouthwatering desserts.

Gregg’s Restaurants & Tavern became very popular along customers, so they were able to open new locations in East Providence in 1979, in Providence in 1985, and in North Kingston in 1993. These locations expanded on the original business concept and, in addition to the traditional dining rooms, they added pubs. Every Gregg’s Restaurant & Tavern location can accommodate around 130 guests, providing tavern seating options, indoor seating options, table,s and booths. This is a classic family-style restaurant with a menu that includes all the classic American-style dishes such as salads, soups, desserts, and sandwiches. However, they are famous for their flavorful, rich dessert menu that won many awards.

Their dessert menu includes cakes, cheesecakes, pastries, and old-time favorites, pies, and Frosties. You should be prepared to pay anywhere between $25 and $40 for a cake such as White Layer Cake, Toffee Candy Crunch Cake, Raspberry Coconut Cake, Lemon Burst Cake, Hasbro Chocolate Peanut Butter Cake, Chocolate Mousse Cake, or Carrot Cake. The cost of a cheesecake is around $35 and for a pie, you will have to get $20 to $30 out of your pocket. The old-time favorites and pastries are priced at $7 to $35 and include apple strudel, apple crisp pan, almond biscotti, chocolate chip cookie, eclairs, walnut brownies, and others.

The appetizer options include nachos, mozzarella sticks, chicken fingers, Buffalo chicken wings, zucchini slices, potato skin, Jordan’s chicken wings, calamari, chicken quesadilla, spinach and cheese dip, and others. Each of these costs anywhere between $7 and $15.

For a salad, you will have to pay anywhere between $12 and $16, and the options would include Summer Picnic Salad, Gregg’s Sweet Salad, Calamari Mediterranean, Crunchy Chinese Chicken Salad, Caesar Salad, Grilled Chicken or Turkey ‘N Cheese, Tuscan Salad and Chef Salad.

Soups and chowders are priced at $5 to $14 and a sandwich costs around $10, while for a pasta dish you will have to pay $14 to $17.

Their kid’s menu includes items such as mozzarella sticks, chips ‘n salsa, hot dogs, mac ‘n cheese, spaghetti & meatball, grilled chicken, and mini parm. These cost anywhere between $5 and $10.
