Huddle House was founded in April 1964 by businessman John Sparks. He opened his first Huddle House location in Decatur, Georgia with the aim of good service and quality meals. Motivated by these values he created a profitable franchise.
The name of the restaurant was inspired by a group of boys Sparks saw huddling up after a Friday evening football game. They were having a friendly talk, laughing and having fun, and John believed that “Huddle House” would be the right name. The eatery would be a gathering place for spending quality time and enjoying a quality meal.
When it first opened, the restaurant had only thirty-four employees, but after two years the company started franchising and grew impressively. In 1978 John Sparks passed away and the management of the company was taken over by his wife, Pauline Sparks. She put all her efforts into building a giant business, that she sold in 1994.
Over time, the ownership of the company has changed a lot, but the passion for good food served in a friendly ambiance remained a core value. In 2006 Huddle House was bought by Allied Capitals and in 2009 they sold the company to Ares Capital. After that, in April 2012, Huddle House was acquired by Sentinel Capital Partners and in February 2018, Elysium Management became the new owner of the franchise.
Nowadays there are 278 Huddle House locations all over the United States of America in states such as Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, Nebraska, New Jersey, North Carolina, North Dakota, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, and West Virginia.
The Huddle House menu is very tempting, with a wide variety of items you can choose from. They are specialized in serving super delicacies and fresh and delicious breakfast and lunch. Among their dishes, you will find sandwiches, starters, waffles, toasts, dinner splatters, burgers, and salads. Some of the recommended meals are dinner splatters, burgers, and premium breakfast.
Their prices are reasonable and competitive. For example, you will have to pay anywhere between $9 and $15 for the Smokehouse splatter, while an Appetizer Basket is sold for $7 to $10. Also, for the Triple Hurdle Burger you will have to get $9 to $13 out of your pocket, and for a Taco Salad anywhere between $7 and $10. The prices are similar in all of their locations, but some menu entrees are seasonal.
The ambiance at Huddle House is relaxed and calm, and the staff is accommodating and friendly, always ready to help you with your order. Even though the restaurants tend to be very busy, especially during rush hours, they prepare and serve your food in peace. Depending on what you order, you will have to wait anywhere between 15 and 20 minutes for your food. However, it is worth it as the meals are home-style, fresh, and tasty.
