Jerry was born on April 29, 1954, in Brooklyn, New York, in a Jewish family – his origin being one of the main pretexts for the jokes in the series that made him famous.

His father, Kalaman Seinfeld, was of Hungarian nationality, but he was born in Ukraine when the country was under Austro-Hungarian occupation. Hence the frequent references to Hungary and Romania in the series, Jerry knowing the two countries from his father’s stories.
After high school, Jerry Seinfeld enrolled at the State University of New York and then at Queens College in New York, where he graduated in 1976. He was attracted to the theater in college, and after graduation, he started working as a comedian in New York clubs, but without success.
