MICA, short for „My Intelligent Communication Accessory”, is a smart bracelet conceived by Opening Ceremony and designed by Intel. It was launched at the end of 2014. Even though it was designed to be catchy, the technology incorporated offers to the MICA’s wearables new opportunities, adding features created by Refinery29, which include trend alerts and daily horoscope. These complement the current functions, including text messages, emails, Google Calendar, events Facebook, Yelp, and intelligent reminders.
The bracelet also provides fashion trademarks with new opportunities to keep in touch with the regular customers.

MICA was designed to help women keep in touch with what’s new at any time.
One model is made of black snake leather, pearls from China, and Madagascar lazulite, and the other one is made of white snake leather, ” Eye of the Tiger ” quartz from South Africa and obsidian from Russia. Both are plated with 18-karat gold and have embedded mobile technology, that allows carriers to consult their Google Calendar, events on Facebook, and to receive Gmail notifications and intelligent reminders about meetings.
The new features R29 Fashion App and R29 Horoscopes App are created by Refinery29 and provide tips and news from the fashion industry, but also astrological data.
How much does it cost?
Currently, the MICA Smart Bracelet is available in the US for $495 at Barneys New York and Opening Ceremony, and it also comes with a wireless data plan, AT&T, for two years.
The elegant bracelet, which looks like a handcuff, is the proof that fashion and technology industry, earlier considered divergent, now are working together, better and better, to provide wearable technology to enthusiasts. Big names from fashion and technology work together in the project, including Intel collaborations with Luxottica eyewear manufacturer, SMS Audio, Fossil Group, and Swiss watch manufacturer, Tag Heuer.

Wang, from Refinery29, says that although the style is essential, its fashion audience target knows that the most effective wearable should focus on technology first and then on fashion.
