Comfort during sleep is so important for your health and energy, but very few people pay attention to this issue. Not to mention the spine, neck, and head problems that occur in time because of a bad quality bed mattress. Do not ignore this aspect because it will cost you a lot in the future!

If you want to buy a good quality mattress it will cost you at least $750 to $2,500, but be aware because what is more than $2,500 leads your budget to a „diminished returns” area.

When you want to buy a new mattress you should take into account two major factors.

  1. The mattress’s support is very important because you don’t want to wake up with a backache, so it should hold you in a proper position from head to toe.
  2. The mattress’s comfort is to blame if you wake up tired. If it’s not comfortable it will cause pressure to your body, leading to turnings and tossing, and none of these lead to good sleep.

If you can find a mattress that keeps you in proper alignment while not causing any pressure to your body, you’ve found a good mattress for you. There are some other minor factors to look for, like:

The motion separation is important if you don’t want to be disturbed by your partner when he is getting in or out of bed, or when he is moving around.

The mattress’s temperature should be similar to your skin temperature. You don’t want the surface temperature to be too warm or too cold because it can disturb your sleep.

The edge support is important for the ones that sleep near the edge so they won’t feel like they are rolling off the bed.

What types of mattresses can we find in stores?

Typical prices:

A used mattress has a cost between $0 and $200.
A $200 to $400 mattress is a basic guest room one. It can be used every night by an adult, if your budget is very tight, but don’t expect to have a great comfort or support. This type of mattress has 4-5 years of warranty.
You’ll pay $400 to $600 for some of the nicer guest room mattresses or it may be the minimum you should spend, if you have the necessary funds, for a mattress that you plan to use every night. This type of mattress has 10 or more years’ warranty.
The average price for an every night adult-use mattress is around $600 – $1,000. At this price, you will get the best coil system and advanced foams for a coil mattress. This is also the lower price range for a memory foam mattress.
For $1,000 to $1,500 you will be able to buy a mattress from the luxury entry level, meaning that the coil system is more advanced and the memory foam mattresses are thicker and they are not manufactured as low cost in China.
If you are willing to spend from $1,500 to 2,500 for a mattress you will get everything you could hope for, like a strong coil system, the thickest layers of the best foams, longer warranties. The warranties can last from 10 to 25 years.
A $2,500 – $5000 mattress doesn’t have too much to deserve this price. The ones that cost this much are made of materials such as “New Zealand wool” and “Mongolian horsehair”, or the Tempurpedic, and Stearns & Foster luxury mattresses.
$5,000+ is not necessarily the best choice. If you are willing to spend that much on a mattress, first make sure that it supports you and is more comfortable than a cheaper one. It is not a rule that if it is the most expensive one, it will be the best one as well. How to test your mattress

You should choose the mattress depending on the height and hardness. It should be tougher for overweight people and less harsh for the one who prefers a softer bed. It should preferably be at least 20 cm in thickness, especially if you have a classic frame bed with a big depth.

The best way to figure out what’s the perfect mattress for you is to spend around 10 minutes on each type and decide what you like and what you don’t like about each mattress.

Should the average working Joe spend more on a mattress?

Something that most people don`t realize is that we spend more than one-third of our lives sleeping, usually at home, on our own bed and mattress. That’s why you should be very careful about what type of mattress you buy. It will make the difference between a good night’s sleep and a painful one. If it is within your budget, get a more expensive mattress, or you’ll have a lot of nights to regret your decision.
