Brand History

Red Lobster was founded by the two entrepreneurs Charley Woodsby and Bill Darden. They opened their first restaurant on January 18, 1968, in Lakeland, Florida. In the beginning, the restaurant was named “Harbor for Seafood Lovers” and in a short time, there were other three locations opened in the southeastern area of the United States.

Two years later, in 1970, General Mills bought Red Lobster as a five-unit company. The restaurant chain expanded very fast during the 1980s. Also, in the 1980s a Red Lobster was opened in Canada as well.

Red Lobster became part of the Darden Restaurants, Inc. in 1995.

The chain introduced its new Bar Harbor restaurant designed after the coastal New England architecture in 2009.

In 2014 Red Lobster announced their new headquarters location in CNL Center City Commons in Orlando and in 2015 they officially opened the Restaurant Support Center.

Nowadays, Red Lobster has 749 locations in 44 US states and 11 countries such as the United Arab Emirates, China, Qatar, Canada, Puerto Rico, Guam, the Philippines, Hong Kong, Mexico, Japan, and Malaysia.

The premium sides cost anywhere between $2.5 and $5 and include the Lobster Topped Potatoes, baked or mashed, the Crispy Brussels Sprouts, and the Baked Potato.

This restaurant also offers catering services for special occasions like professional events and family parties. Their signature dishes include the wood-grilled Maine lobster, the classic Caesar salad, the wood-grilled tacos, the salmon, and the parmesan-crusted fresh tilapia.

You can take your kids to Red Lobster without worrying about what they can eat because there is a kid’s menu that includes meals that cost around $6.5 each. Plus, you can add a salad to every kid’s meal for only $2.
