With a history of more than thirty years, Saladworks is on the market since 1986. The first restaurant was opened in first October of that year, in the Cherry Hill Mall, New Jersey by John Scardapane. He was the CEO of the company until 2015. This new restaurant had a huge success, which led to the opening of 12 new locations in Pennsylvania and New Jersey.

In 2001 Saladworks started franchising, and six years later 88 restaurants were opened in 8 states, including Illinois, Pennsylvania, Florida, New Jersey, Maryland, and Delaware.

The company declared bankruptcy on February 17, 2015, and filed a bankruptcy petition for Chapter 11, saying that they need an investor. Their major creditor was Vernon Hill, the founder of Commerce Bank and Metro Bank.

So, in June 2015 Saladworks was bought by Center Lane Partners and Paul Steck was named the president of the company, substituting the founder, John Scardapane.
