Brand History

The history of the Sheetz restaurant dates back to 1952 when Bob Sheetz bought one of his father’s five dairy stores and opened the first Sheetz location in Altoona, Pennsylvania. In the first eleven years of activity Sheetz succeeded in creating a great reputation for delicious, fresh, “made to order” meals.

Bob needed some help in running the business and so in 1963, he employed his brother Steve. The same year they opened the second Sheetz location and this was just the beginning of their expansion. By the year 1972, there were 14 Sheetz stores opened.

In the beginning, Sheetz company was focused only on the restaurant and convenience store aspect of the business, but starting from 1973 they included gas and self-service gasoline pumps.

Sheetz has always been and still is a family-run business. Bob was involved in operating the company even after his retirement. All of their locations are company-run and operated and they have no franchises. This company maintained the high quality of its products along time thanks to the “keep it in the family” attitude.

Nowadays, there are more than 600 Sheetz stores in the United States of America, in the Midwest, Northwest, Upland South, Mid-Atlantic and Appalachia areas.
