Sweet Frog was founded by Derek Cha, who immigrated to the United States of America from South Korea when he was only 12 years old. In 2009 he opened his first frozen yogurt store in Richmond, Virginia. This company was created on Christian principles. Actually, “FROG” is the acronym for “Fully Rely on God”, according to Derek.

Only four years after its opening the Sweet Frog company had grown to more than 215 locations in 25 states in the United States, with more units located internationally in Egypt, the United Kingdom, and the Dominican Republic.

Boxwood Capital Partners invested in Sweet Frog in April 2012, and eventually, they purchased the company in 2015. Since then, James Patrick Gallagher, the Managing Director of Boxwood, has been associated with Sweet Frog, at the beginning as a Board Director and after the purchase as the company’s CEO.

An entirely owned subsidiary of Canada-based MTY Food Group Inc. of Montreal, Quebec bought Sweet Frog in 2018.

In 2020 Derek Cha said that he would like to have one thousand international Sweet Frozen locations and one thousand units in the United States.

Over time, the company has been awarded for its great work and products. For instance, Sweet Frog was listed as #22 on the Inc. 500 list of fastest-growing private companies in 2014, and in March 2016 Daily Meal named them the best-frozen yogurt store in the United States. Also, they have been recognized as the Best of Smith Mountain Lake Awards, the Best of Lynchburg, and many more.

Currently, more than 350 Sweet Frog stores are opened across the United States and internationally in countries such as the United Kingdom, Dominican Republic, and Egypt.

It would be hard to walk away from a Sweet Frog store without your favorite yogurt flavor as they have more than eighty flavors in five categories. The products are delicious and fresh and the prices depend on the weight. You would have to pay around $0.80 for 1 oz, but it may vary from one location to another.

It is recommended to try one of the following flavors: Original Tart, Vanilla, and Sweet Coconut. Also, they offer various sugar-free options such as Cheesecake and Strawberry Banana. In case you are one of those non-fat lovers, you should order a mix of Classic Chocolate and Cappuccino. As for the topping, you can choose between fruit poppers gelatin balls filled with a fruity liquid that blasts in your mouth, nut candies, or a mix of fruits.

A typical Frozen Yogurt store is painted in green and pink colors and consists of toppings bars, merchandise, seven to eight frozen yogurt machines, and the always-present mascots Cookie and Scoop. Their stores are located conveniently and, in general, have many parking lots. Also, you can buy Sweet Frog branded clothes and toys from their locations.
