Expect to pay more for new tiles instead of repairing them. However, in some cases, the new tiles would be the best option.

If don’t take care of the tiles properly, the roof may get damaged in the future and the contents in the house will be affected too.

The labor costs will be influenced by the extent of the work and damage.

Do not forget to take into consideration the expenses with the removal of old material and tiles and with the cleanup.

The installation price for concrete tiles is slightly higher than for metal roofs.

Metal roof tiles are easy to install, so the cost of installation is lower than for ceramic tiles.

Bituminous roofs are used for ancillary and holiday buildings, and less frequently for residential buildings. Bituminous tiles are a cheaper roofing material.

Corrugated iron tiles are one of the cheapest roofing materials. Corrugated sheets can be mounted directly on the board support, after mounting the anti-condensation foil or on the slat network.

Tile roof repair overview

Roof Tile RepairFor roofs covered with ceramic tile or pressed concrete tile, “problems” usually occur around chimneys, in eaves, next to skylights, on very sloping sections, and next to illuminators. It might also be due to broken tiles or even displaced ones.

To repair a roof with such defects, the tiles in the infiltration area are removed, the decking (if necessary) is replaced, the anti-condensation foil and wooden bars are installed and the tiles are placed back, or when needed, replaced with new tiles. The galvanized sheet elements will be changed if their wear because these can lead to other infiltrations. Subsequently, the condition of the tiles is checked on the entire surface of the roof, the gutters are cleaned of leaves and debris in order not to block the rainwater path, which can lead to infiltrations.

It is recommended to check the roof of ceramic tile or concrete tile annually, especially in autumn. The roof of a house is the first element of protection against the various whims of nature.

Signs that your tile roof needs repairs

Check the attic or interior of the house for leaks. In other words, water or ice stains indicate that the tile roof of your home needs repair or, as the case may be, even a replacement.

Also, if visible mold stains appear on the ceiling, walls, or ceiling of the attic of the house, then it is clear that the tile roof is not in order and that at least a series of repairs is required.

In the case of a ceramic tile roof, analyze it to see if there are broken tiles or missing portions (which have been torn off or destroyed by storms). Also, check for tiles on the roof that are deformed and have deep cracks. If you find that only a few tiles are missing or broken, then they can be easily replaced. On the other hand, if any of them are curved at the edges and have deformations, it means that they are obsolete and that the replacement of the entire roof becomes absolutely necessary.

Important things to consider

It is recommended to collaborate with a company specialized in installing roofing systems. With a company that has a good reputation and professional staff, you will benefit from a real guarantee. Damage that can occur as a result of infiltrations through the broken tile roof can cost much more than the cost of hiring a professional team.

Whether it is the installation or repair of metal tile roofs, traditional ceramic tiles or concrete tiles, bituminous shingles, or flat sheets, a team of professionals is at your disposal for a full range of services.

DIY considerations

You can do the basic repairs yourself, such as replacing or removing a few damaged tiles, but if the roof needs considerable repairs it is recommended to hire a professional to perform this job.

Make sure you replace the tiles with the same type of tiles your roof has.

When you are working on a roof always wear safety equipment and be extremely careful.
