TCBY was founded by Frank D. Hickingbotham in 1981. He opened his first store in Little Rock, Arkansas, and named his son, Herren, store manager. The second store, which was opened later, was run by Frank’s brother-in-law, Walt Winters, and the third one was taken over by his youngest son, Todd. In their first full year, they managed to make a profit of $1.8 million and in their second year they more than doubled it. They had more than $50 million a few years later.
Originally, the store was named “This Can’t Be Yogurt” but their competitor, I Can’t Believe It’s Yogurt, Inc. sued them to change it. So, it was changed to “The Country’s Best Yogurt” and luckily kept the initials.
In May 1984 the company went public, and with an influx of capital, they managed to purchase their supplier Arthur’s Foods. As a result, their corporate office staff doubled and they were able to expand on the West Coast.
In 1986, TCBY’s slogan was “All of the pleasure, none of the guilt”. The spokesperson saying it was Mickey Rooney.
In 1995, TCBY started co-branding with Burger King, Taco Bell, Subway, and McDonald’s.
Currently, TCBY has more than 250 franchise locations all over the world, that offer a large product line, with the majority of yogurt flavors in varieties that have no sugar added, are low in fat and even nonfat.
TCBY store abandoned the old scoop and serve model when they were updated. Now, when clients walk in, they have to help themselves with the soft-serve frozen yogurt. They can order any combination they want. Some of the delicious flavors include Golden Vanilla, Cake Batter, Cotton Candy Freeze, and Chocolate Peppermint.
After you have chosen your yogurt flavor, you go to the toppings bar where you can find a selection of candies and fruits, such as marshmallows, nuts, sprinkles, bananas, and cherries. They also offer some not-so-common ones, like mango, blackberries, and gummy bears.
If you still prefer hand-scooped yogurt, you can choose between various flavors, such as Peanut Butter Delight and Psychedelic Sorbet. Also, you can get a milkshake or parfait, if you want something a little different. Frappe chillers and cappuccinos are on their menu as well. Their pies and cakes are also very tasty.
The Beriyo smoothies from TCBY are available in different flavors including Mondo Mango, Purely Peach, Mango Tango, Berrylicious, Mangolada, Strawberry Bananza, Pina Paradise, Straight-up Strawberry, Pink Pineapple, Strawberry Fling, Peach Palm, Black ‘n’ Blueberry, Pomegranate.
At TCBY you can find something for everyone. For instance, the Super FroYo is a selection of nutrition flavors, that contain seven types of active and live cultures, fiber, vitamin D, protein, and calcium. These contain less than 120 calories per serving and are low in fat.
This frozen yogurt chain also offers Dairy Free, GMO-Free, Vegan, and Gluten Free options. Here you can also find Greek yogurt.
TCBY is a great place to hang out with your friends, family, or colleagues and grab a snack. Clients just love the idea of making their own creations from an amazing selection of flavors.
