Brand History
Paul Burton and Harmon Dobson founded Whataburger in 1950 in Corpus Christi, Texas. The price of one burger was only $0.25 when the restaurant first opened. However, this partnership didn’t last too long due to the arguments referring the Dobson’s price raise of the burger from $0.25 to $0.30. So, in 1951 Burton left the company.
In 1962, Whataburger included hot pies and French fries in their menus, and in 1963 they opened their first location in Arizona. It was estimated that in 1965 the company was selling around 15,000 burgers per day in the Texas Coastal Bend region.
