Crunch Fitness details

Crunch’s story is one of creativity and determination. The business started in East Village with no air conditioning, but they were determined to make it work by creating a more fun workout culture for their customers, which lead them on an incredible journey as well. Crunch set out to make their workouts fun and effective by hiring the services of creative fitness instructors. Workout programs like Co-ed Action Wrestling, Cyked Yoga Cycling, Hip Hop Aerobics, and many more were liked immediately by the public.

In 1989, former stockbroker Doug Levine opened the doors of a fitness center that would change how people think about health and wellness. The innovative marketing strategies he used to attract young clients plus his ability to create results made this club an instant hit with both busy professionals as well those looking for fun in their free time. The membership offerings and unusual workout classes made them very popular among many fitness lovers.

In 2001, the CEO of Bally Total Fitness announced that they had purchased Crunch for $90 million. However, four years later in 2005, this same company sold it to an equity firm with ties all over America, Angelo Gordon & Co. After another four years, it was sold to New Evolution Company managed by Mark Mastrov, who was one of the co-founders of 24 Hour Fitness. After this purchase, there were other locations added as well, such as UFC gyms.

As of today, the company has more than 200,000 members and its main headquarters are in New York. Thanks to its popularity, Crunch Fitness plans to expand worldwide and already has a location in Australia. It is also available as a franchise.

Important things to consider

Crunch Fitness InsideCrunch Fitness has a lot to offer to its members starting with a number-based locker system and continuing with saunas and private showers stalls. Moreover, the staff is very kind and ready to answer all your questions at any time. Also, besides the access to top-line equipment, the majority of the fitness center will allow you to have access to the rest of their gym from a certain area.

As a member you will have the opportunity to join one of the many classes like yoga, Zumba or body sculpt, the most popular being Anti-gravity/Aerial yoga. If you join this class, you will develop your body flexibility and physical strength.

Each of the classes is designed to provide you with a high-quality workout, and all the different styles have been created specifically for those who want an intense experience. Besides the classes we already mentioned above, all the Crunch locations have to offer activities such as Pound, Barre, TRX, Pilates, and many more. Moreover, the trainers will guide and help you with some other activities like boxing or spinning.

Currently, Crunch Fitness is expanding the number of classes and these include the Booty Kickin’Step, which is a high-energy workout with step choreography and hop turns and pivots. The Bi-Polar class is a high-intensity cardio workout where you will have to use a sandbag and a jump rope. With the Cardio Body Training, you will be able to lose fat and if you feel like kicking and punching someone you can join the Cardio Tai Box class.

Other advantages of going to work out at one of Crunch Fitness locations include the possibility to use up-to-date equipment such as monkey bars and heavy ropes. Plus, you will not have to bring your own keypad lock as there are locker rooms that have their own keypad locks. Also, you do not have to bring your own sweat towel, shampoo, body wash, mouthwash, conditioner, and hairspray as Crunch Fitness provides these all.
