How much do Hitachi Excavators Cost?

The cost of Hitachi excavators depends on many factors including whether they are brand new or used, model, power, year, geographical location, size, and where you purchase them from. However, the price of a brand new Hitachi excavator starts at around $105,000 and goes up to more than $310,000. For a used excavator you will pay a lower price, depending on how many hours it was utilized.

For example, depending on your location you will pay almost $127,000 for a new Hitachi Zx200lc-3 excavator. On the other hand, the cost of a new Hitachi Ex1200-6 excavator is around $585,000.

You will see lower prices for the smaller models. For example, a new Hitachi Zx85usb-5 excavator is sold for almost $112,000.

A new Hitachi Zx290 Lc-5, which is from a medium-size excavator class can be bought for around $255,000.

New special-purpose extra-large excavators are sold by the manufacturer for around one million dollars.

Important things to consider

In most cases, new Hitachi excavators will come with a standard manufacturer warranty that is a two-year/2,000 hour full machine. According to the company, this is available for any repair needed inside that period.

You should expect a more affordable price if you get one with more hours of use. For example, a two to three years old excavator with less than 1,000 hours of use will be 25% cheaper than a new version.

Regardless of the model of the Hitachi excavator that you are going to buy, you can be sure that these are of the best quality and worth the investment if you will use them on a regular basis.

What are the extra costs?

Hitachi Excavator SampleIn case you want to upgrade your new Hitachi excavator you should be ready for some extra costs. For example, it is a common practice to add an extra bucket. These come in different sizes and a wider version would cost around $4,500 or even more.

In order to complete a project, you will need a grading blade to smooth and grade a surface and to contour or slope a terrain. Be prepared to pay $4,000 to more than $14,500 for a grading blade.

In case you have to dig through rocky terrain, a trencher may help you. This equipment has the capacity to dig 4 to 12 inches across and to a depth of 2 to 3 feet. Expect to pay anywhere between $5,000 and more than $9,500 for such an attachment.

For more precision when digging holes you will need an auger. These are sold for $2,000 to $3,500.

How can I save money?

In case you can’t afford a brand new excavator you can purchase a used one. There are models that cost more than $105,000, but the price is influenced by the hours of use, year, power, weight, model, size, geographic area, and where you buy it from (a private seller or a dealer).

As you can see the price is greatly influenced by the year, with the newer models being more expensive, even similar to a new excavator. For instance, you will pay around $145,000 for a 2018 ZX135US-6 with around 620 hours of use, which is the same as for a new excavator. Also, expect to pay around $140,000 for a 2018 HITACHI ZX135US-6 excavator with around 600 hours of use.

If you want something much more affordable you should look for an older version. For example, you will have to pay around $25,000 for a model 1988 EX100.

You should budget around $39,000 for a 2008 HITACHI ZX160 LC-3 excavator with more than 10,000 hours of use if bought through dealerships. Also, for a mini excavator like Hitachi ZX35U-5N from 2016 with almost 100 hours of use, you will have to pay around $49,000.

A lower price, of around $30,000, will usually be paid for a 2000 Hitachi EX200 LC-5 model, with more than 9,000 hours of use.
