More than 48 million Americans have some type of hearing loss that affects their communication, relationships, health, and even career. People who suffer from hearing impairment wait on average almost 10 years before doing something about it. Few people make a decision in time to recover their ability to hear and increase their quality of life.

Hearing aids have come a long way in the past ten years and one of the options available today for those diagnosed with mild to moderate-severe sensorineural hearing loss may be the Lyric extended wear hearing aid manufactured by Phonak. Phonak has the right hearing aid for you – regardless of your type of hearing loss, lifestyle, personal preferences, age, or budget.

How much does Lyric Hearing Aid cost?

The Phonak company does offer public information about the cost of the Lyric hearing aids on its official website as these are sold only through Certified Lyric Providers on an annual subscription, that is set by the provider. Though, you should expect to pay anywhere between $3,200 and $6,500 per year for a pair of Lyric hearing aids. Also, Medicaid or Medicare will not cover the costs of this device. Moreover, some professional fees may be applied.

You can find a Certified Local Provider for Lyric hearing aids and learn more about the prices by visiting the official website of the Phonak company.

According to one member of the Hearing Tracker online forum, the annual costs of the Lyric hearing aids are around $4,600, while other people said that they had to pay around $4,100 per year.

From the Hearing Loss Help website, we found that some people had to pay anywhere between $3,300 and $3,700 for a one-year subscription to their Lyric hearing aids.

On the other hand, according to the Zip Hearing website, the cost of the Lyric hearing aid would be anywhere between $2,900 and $3,300 per year.

What is included in the annual subscription?

The annual subscription for the Lyric hearing aid will include up to eight replacements of the device as it lasts only two to three months. You will have to visit your provider every time you need a new hearing device. Remember that battery replacements or repairs will not be necessary. Also, if a new technology appears, it will be included in the annual costs.

Though, if you are out of town and need to replace your Lyric hearing aid device at a different provider, you may have to pay a fee of around $110.

Lyric hearing aid overview

Phonak Lyric Inside EarLyric hearing aids fit perfectly inside the outer ear. They have a hard acrylic shell – or titanium in the case of the Phonak Titanium hearing aid – that contains the electronic components which are recommended for people with mild to severe hearing loss.

However, keep in mind that it doesn’t work as well for children whose ears are still growing, or for older people with poor dexterity. The same applies to people who have an ear canal that is too thin, too short, or with “many bends”.

Lyric hearing aids are the most discreet hearing aid models available. This discreet style has no visible external wires or tubes, unlike BTE (behind-the-ear) hearing aids. In-the-ear hearing aids are custom-made, ensuring both a perfect fit and a discreet appearance.

The device can be worn for up to several months at a time. Because it is placed so close to the eardrum, users say they experience a more natural sound. Inserted and programmed by a Lyric-certified provider, the water-resistant device can be worn while showering and exercising.

A word of caution, though. Lyric is not for everyone. Those with small ear canals or severe or profound hearing loss may not benefit from this technology. And while the Lyric is water resistant, it’s not waterproof, meaning you can’t swim or dive with them in. In addition, because the entire device is replaced six to eight times a year, the cost of this option is more expensive than that of traditional hearing aids.

Why choose Phonak’s Lyric hearing aid?

With the Lyric hearing aid devices from Phonak, you get exactly what you are looking for; you can wear them anywhere, especially due to how discreet they are, and the impeccable sound quality they provide, both on the talking side and when you want to listen to your favorite music.
