Brand history

Ally and Scott Svenson are the ones who founded MOD Pizza in 2008 in Seattle, Washington. The idea to start this business appeared after the Svensons moved to their hometown of Bellevue, Washington, and were not able to find healthy, affordable, and fast meals for their four children. The founding team included also James Markham, who had some experience in the pizza restaurant industry and helped to develop the house recipes from the MOD Pizza menu. The first MOD Pizza location was in Union Square and after that more locations were opened in Seattle.

Previously, the Svensons established the Seattle Coffee Company, based in the United Kingdom, but in 1998 they sold it to Starbucks. Also, the Svensons involved in the founding of the Italian restaurant Carluccio’s Ltd., based in the U.K.

MOD Pizza opened its first location outside of Washington in 2013, in Beaverton, Oregon, at Cedar Hills Crossing shopping center. The same year the company was named by Nation’s Restaurant News as one of the United States’ “Top 50 Breakout Brands”.

In 2014 31 MOD Pizza restaurants were opened in Washington, Texas, Oregon, Colorado, California, and Arizona.

The company’s first international location was opened in June 2016 in Leeds, United Kingdom. In five years, nine locations were opened in the UK, but all of these were closed in 2020.

MOD Pizza opened its 200^th restaurant in January 2017, which was located in Frederick, Maryland. At that time the company had restaurants in twenty states, including Wisconsin, Arizona, Washington, California, Virginia, Colorado, Utah, Florida, Texas, Idaho, South Carolina, Illinois, Pennsylvania, Kansas, Oregon, Kentucky, Oregon, Maryland, Ohio, Michigan, North Carolina, Missouri, New Jersey, and Montana.

In 2019 MOD Pizza opened its first location in Canada, in Langford, B.C., and in 2021 the 500^th restaurant was opened.

Nowadays, more than 500 MOD Pizza restaurants are opened all over the United States of America and Canada.

MOD Pizza offers its customers high-quality, individualized products. Your hand-tossed salad or pizza can be fully customized with more than forty toppings, eight mouthwatering dressings, and eight finishing sauces. And regardless of what you choose, the prices will be the same.

Be prepared to pay anywhere between $8.50 and $14.50 for a pizza, depending on the ordered size. There are three pizza sizes you can choose from, Mini which is 6 inches, MOD which is 11 inches, and Mega Dough which has an 11 inches thick crust. Some of the pizza options include Pizza Salad; Create Your Own; the classic cheese pizza Maddy; the Mad Dog made with mild sausages, Mozzarella, ground beef, and pepperoni; Tristan which is made with pesto, mushrooms, Mozzarella, roasted red peppers, and asiago; Dominic which contains sliced tomatoes, white sauce, mild sausages, red onion, fresh chopped basil, and asiago; Caspian that is made with sliced red onion, BBQ chicken, gorgonzola, barbeque sauce, and Mozzarella; Jasper prepared with red sauce, mushrooms, spicy chicken sausages, and Mozzarella.

Salads are priced from $8.50 to $15.50, depending on the size, family size, entrée, or side. The salad options include Simple Salad, Garden, Greek, Caesar Salad, Deluxe Salad, Roasted Sriracha Chickpea Salad and Create Your Own Salad.

The No Name Dessert is actually a chocolate cake covered in a chocolaty glaze, with a rich vanilla buttercream core. It costs around $4.50.
