In 1960 the company changed its name into the Foodmaker Company and in the same year was also opened the first Jack in the Box restaurant outside of California, in Phoenix, Arizona.

In 1979 Jack in the Box closed more than 200 locations from the eastern and midwestern parts of the United States and concentrated its efforts to develop only in the southwestern and western of the country.
