Brand History

Applebee's Menu ItemsApplebee’s was founded in 1980 by the two brothers Bill and T.J. Palmer. Their dream was to build a restaurant that had a neighborhood vibe and offer quality food items at lower prices in a friendly manner.  The first location was opened in Atlanta, Georgia and at that time it was named T.J. Applebee’s Rx for Edibles & Elixirs.

The second location outside of Atlanta, Georgia was opened a few years later and in the year of 1983, the company was sold to W. R. Grace and Company. Bill Palmer was named the president of Applebee’s Division as part of this transaction.

This restaurant changed its name to Applebee’s Neighborhood Grill & Bar in 1986. The 100th Applebee’s restaurant was opened in 1989, in Nashville, Tennessee.

During the 1990s Applebee’s was one of the largest sit-down restaurant chains in America and it started trading publicly in 1991. The 1000th Applebee’s restaurant was opened in 1998.

Nowadays there are around 2,000 Applebee’s locations in the United States, Panama, Canada, United Arab Emirates, Mexico, Kuwait, Guatemala, Kuwait, Brazil, Saudi Arabia, and Qatar.
