Brand history

The story of Dibella’s Old Fashioned Submarines starts back in 1918, in the city of Rochester. It was first founded as a family-run Italian delicatessen and import store. Over time, their cooked items became more and more appreciated by the clients at the expense of their grocery items.

The company’s operations consisted of only one sub store located in the Rochester suburb of Henrietta until 1998. They opened a second location in the nearby suburb of Greece the same year.

Since then, Dibella’s Old Fashioned Submarines opened more stores across the Rochester area and expanded into nearby Buffalo. They began to expand out of state in the late 2000s. First, they opened a location in the Pittsburg area and after that in areas of eastern Michigan and Ohio. Also, more recently, they opened locations in Syracuse and Albany.

Dibella’s Old Fashioned Submarines moved into New England, more exactly in the Hartford/New Haven and Connecticut area. They tried to run shops in Indianapolis, but since then all three stores have closed.

Currently, 44 Dibella’s Old Fashioned Submarines locations are opened across Michigan, New York, Connecticut, Pennsylvania, and Ohio.
