Brand history

The story of Marie Callender’s brand starts back in the early 1930s with Cal Warrant Callender and his wife Marie, who were selling pies in Orange County and in the city of Long Beach.

Marie Callender's Menu ItemsIn 1948, they opened their first wholesale bakery with the help of their son, Don, and the money they got from selling their family car. After a few years, Marie was making more than two hundred pies per day and had bought a mixer and a truck.

In 1964, Marie’s son Don opened the first Marie Callender’s pie and coffee shop in Orange, California. After five years they had opened twelve more restaurants. Also, in 1969 they opened their first restaurants outside of California, in Houston and Las Vegas. The same year the restaurant’s menu expanded including new items such as chili & cornbread, salads, ham-stacked sandwiches, hamburgers, and other homestyle meals.

A typical Marie Callender’s restaurant would have a salad bar and a saloon, or a fully stocked bar where they serve alcoholic beverages. The menu includes mainly American-style dishes, but also meals inspired from Chinese, Italian, French, and Mexican cuisine. However, their signature items are the pies that come in more than thirty varieties.

Depending on the ordered size, slice, or whole, you will have to pay anywhere between $5.50 and $20 for a pie. They also offer a Kid’s menu that includes food items such as Munchkin Burgers, Chick-A-Doodle Strips, Oodles of Noodles, Kid’s Buttermilk Pancakes, Kid’s French Toast, and others. Each of these items costs anywhere between $5 and $7.
