Philly Pretzel Factory’s history starts back in 1995 with Len Lehman and Dan DiZio. At that time these two were college roommates and had the aim to create a local brand immersed in the history of the bagel-loving city. They started their business as an experiment with a storefront at 7366 Frankford Avenue in Philadelphia, instead of a brick-and-mortar location.

In 1998 they opened their first restaurant that was located in the Mayfair section of Philadelphia. Dan and Len just wanted to serve fresh soft “Philly Style” pretzels to clients all day. Their business concept proved to be very successful and by the end of their first year of activity, they began to receive offers for franchising their store.

In 2004 Soft Pretzel Franchise Systems, Inc. was founded, and so the franchising of the brand started. Around 45 locations were opened and, in spite of the recession, the number has continued to grow. Because the model is very profitable, many franchisees own and run multiple locations these days.

Currently, more than 145 Philly Pretzel Factory stores are opened located across 12 US states including Pennsylvania, South Carolina, New York, Missouri, Arizona, New Jersey, Texas, Virginia, Delaware, Ohio, Maryland, and North Carolina.

The central item of the Philly Pretzel Factory menu is the traditional pretzel, which comes in three varieties: the “crowd pleaser”, the regular pretzel, and the mini pretzel. Each portion consists of twenty-five pieces and a choice of three sauces.
