Philly Pretzel Factory is a restaurant chain in the United States of America specialized in serving hand-twisted, fresh “Philly Style” pretzels. They pride themselves on their pretzels, which are cholesterol free and fat-free, and contain no trans-fats but are a great source of protein with around 14 grams per pretzel.
Besides pretzels, the Philly Pretzel Factory menu includes a large variety of dips and specialty food items such as pretzel dogs, cinnamon pretzel twist, spicy pretzel sausage, rivets shaker, rivet box cheesesteaks, and various mustards.

Philly Pretzel Factory’s history starts back in 1995 with Len Lehman and Dan DiZio. At that time these two were college roommates and had the aim to create a local brand immersed in the history of the bagel-loving city. They started their business as an experiment with a storefront at 7366 Frankford Avenue in Philadelphia, instead of a brick-and-mortar location.
In 1998 they opened their first restaurant that was located in the Mayfair section of Philadelphia. Dan and Len just wanted to serve fresh soft “Philly Style” pretzels to clients all day. Their business concept proved to be very successful and by the end of their first year of activity, they began to receive offers for franchising their store.
In 2004 Soft Pretzel Franchise Systems, Inc. was founded, and so the franchising of the brand started. Around 45 locations were opened and, in spite of the recession, the number has continued to grow. Because the model is very profitable, many franchisees own and run multiple locations these days.
Currently, more than 145 Philly Pretzel Factory stores are opened located across 12 US states including Pennsylvania, South Carolina, New York, Missouri, Arizona, New Jersey, Texas, Virginia, Delaware, Ohio, Maryland, and North Carolina.
The central item of the Philly Pretzel Factory menu is the traditional pretzel, which comes in three varieties: the “crowd pleaser”, the regular pretzel, and the mini pretzel. Each portion consists of twenty-five pieces and a choice of three sauces. A pack of twenty-five pretzels would cost you around $12, while for a pack of four regular soft pretzels, you will have to get around $3 out of your pocket.
Taking into consideration that pretzels are a popular snack at gatherings and parties, Philly Pretzel Factory offers various party tray options with pretzels that can be large or bite-size. For a small tray, you will have to pay around $25 and this will be enough to feed 10 to 12 guests, while a large tray, enough for 20 to 25 guests, would cost you $28 to $35.
The Philly Pretzel Factory is not only famous for its traditional pretzels, but also for its free signature sauces, including the Spicy Brown Mustard, Super-Hot Mustard, Honey Mustard, Original Yellow Mustard, and the famous Cheese Dip. Also, the clients can enjoy a wide variety of specialty food items such as the Pepperoni Pretzel Melt, the Pretzel Cheesesteak, and the Cinnamon Pretzel Twist.
In general, the Philly Pretzel Factory locations are clean and offer quick service. The condiments are free and the pretzels are served hot. Most clients are satisfied with the quantity and the quality of the food they get. Though, some of them complained that the pretzels don’t have the same taste as the traditional Philadelphia Street vendor pretzels, and are not as fresh as they expected.
