Its History

Founded in 1971 in Seattle, USA, by three friends (English teacher Jerry Baldwin, history teacher Zev Siegel, and writer Gordon Bowker), the brand has virtually changed the way people drink coffee in a space outside their home or workplace.

The three Starbucks founders had two things in common: they all came from academia and everyone loved coffee and tea. They invested and borrowed some money to open the first store in Seattle and named it “Starbucks” after the first partner in Herman Melville’s classic novel Moby Dick.

Starbucks coffee shop experience, from the very beginning, offered extremely welcoming spaces where people could detach themselves from worries and anxieties and enjoy their coffee as they would not be able to do anywhere else. It is easy to understand, therefore, that the brand has experienced a fairly rapid global expansion.

The innovative and profitable business concept began to take shape in the early 1980s when the three founders met Howard Schultz, who was then representing Hammarplast (the Swedish household goods company from which Starbucks regularly ordered equipment). Although at first, he failed to persuade the three of them to turn Starbucks into a large company, Schultz gradually laid the groundwork for the world’s most successful international coffee chain.

It opened its first international specialty coffee store in Tokyo in 1996, entered the UK market in 1998, and opened its first Latin American store in Mexico City in 2002. It was followed by Russia and Romania in 2007; Vietnam, in 2013; Brunei, in 2014; Panama, in 2015, etc. The brand currently has over 28,000 locations worldwide.

Starbucks rewards

A way to save at Starbucks is to join the Starbucks rewards program, where members can earn points, known as “Stars”, for the purchases made at the store, which can be redeemed for various items. The company made changes to its Rewards program on February 13, 2023. Here are the key changes and their impact on redeeming rewards:

The number of Stars needed to redeem for various items has increased. For example, it now takes 100 Stars for a hot or iced coffee or tea, a packaged snack, a baked good, or a to-go cup.

Iced coffees and iced teas can now be redeemed for 100 Stars instead of 150, and bags of coffee for 300 Stars instead of 400.

Customers can now get a drink customization (e.g., extra espresso shot, dairy substitute, or flavored syrup) for 25 Stars.

Certain Starbucks merchandise items and packaged coffee still cost 400 Stars.

Bakery items, lattes, and cold brews now cost 100 Stars instead of 50 Stars.

Lunch sandwiches, packaged salads, and protein boxes now cost 300 Stars instead of 200.

Hot breakfast items now cost 200 Stars instead of 150.

The changes to the Starbucks Rewards program in 2023 impacted the number of Stars required to redeem for various items, including cold and hot coffee, steamed milk, and hot chocolate. The program also added new items that can be earned through the program, with different Star redemption tiers for different rewards.

What does your favorite Starbucks drink say about you?

With so many delicious options on the Starbucks menu, choosing the perfect coffee has become a sport, and your favorite Starbucks drink says a lot about you. If a few years ago coffee was just a simple remedy for fatigue and sleepless nights, since the American giant transformed the way we drink this drink, hot and cold coffee has become a ritual that involves a lot of flavors, and toppings like whipped cream or caramel sauce, and … calories.

We all have a favorite menu item at Starbucks and that’s normal. But have you ever thought that what you order from Starbucks can also reflect your way of being?

American coffee

Those who prefer Americano coffee are not the kind of people who embrace every trend, and most of the time they refuse to embrace the “Starbucks language.” You like plain, “old school” coffee, without weird flavors and toppings that you can’t pronounce. You don’t like to complicate your existence with artificial sweeteners and invented names.

Espresso shot

You have a lot of things to do and don’t stop until your Inbox is empty. Paradoxically, you probably won’t be able to complete all the tasks you have on the list, because you’ve had another shot of Starbucks espresso and you’ve already started hearing colors.

Flat White

Those who always order a Flat White are typical hipsters, who “knew about this drink before it got cool.” Flat White, invented in Australia, is the ideal drink for those who love to discover new places or flavors.

Caramel Macchiato

Those who love sweet coffee usually have a sweeter personality. If you prefer a cup of Caramel Macchiato, you are most likely an optimistic and cheerful person who loves to talk to anyone. Those who like Caramel Macchiato are innate leaders who overflow with charm and charisma.

Vanilla Latte

Vanilla Latte is the most classic Starbucks drink. Those who usually choose this type of coffee prefer traditional things and rightly so. If you can’t imagine your life without a big glass of Vanilla Latte, it means that you like simple things, without clutter. Your friends can certainly rely on the fact that you are always as honest and direct as possible.

Pumpkin Spice Latte

You love the taste of pumpkin and spices, but you’re not sure if you like coffee or not. You always see the full side of the glass and spend most of your time thinking about the next time you can take a picture of your huge Starbucks glass with Pumpkin Spice Late for Instagram Stories. Surely you prefer Pumpkin Spice Late and because you like autumn – sweaters, pictures of Insta with colorful leaves, scarves, and fried chestnuts.

Hot Fudge Chocolate

If being an adult means drinking sour coffee in an uncomfortable suit, then you certainly prefer to hold on to the last fragments of childhood with your teeth and don’t let go of your Starbucks Hot Fudge Chocolate glass.

Mocha Frappuccino

You don’t like coffee, but you love ice cream. You’re probably not familiar with the rest of the drinks on the Starbucks menu, so you’d rather order a Mocha Frappuccino every time.

Although your friends order a latte or black coffee, you remain loyal to your childhood tastes and enjoy a delicious drink with lots of cream and chocolate syrup. You are the happiest person in your group of friends and the one who starts any party. Even though, most of the time, your friends make fun of you every time you order Starbucks Frappuccinos.

Mango Black Tea Lemonade

You don’t like coffee and you’re not afraid to admit it! You prefer to relax on the couch with an interesting book. You’re already used to the weird looks you get when you stand in line at Starbucks and order a glass of tea at the world’s most famous coffee shop.

Not everyone drinks a Mango Black Tea Lemonade, and you are a special person. You are brave and do not care what others think of you.

Apple Cranberries Smoothie

This drink tastes as nice as its name. Most likely you have an excellent vegan recipe, with which you make a fuss at any party, and although your friends prefer to eat a juicy burger, they must admit that your dish is delicious.
