The Upper Montclair Country Club is a private club in New Jersey that was formed by members of the “Upper Ten”. They were given permission to build their own course on an unfinished 5-hole golf course located within sight-seeable distance from Manhattan where they could play at any time, even if it wasn’t open for public use yet.

The union of these two groups led to the creation, in 1901, of what would eventually become known as Upper Montclair Country Club.

The original course included five holes but was expanded with four more through additions made in the 1920s and 1930s under AW Tillinghast’s supervision, who also designed an 18-hole golf course for them around this time period. Improvement projects continued into the 1950s when Robert Trent Jones supervised much-needed work being done on it including redesigning greens.

How much does an Upper Montclair Country Club membership cost?

According to a job posting, the cost of a membership at Upper Montclair Country Club is around $13,000 but is considered to be a promotion rate.  It is said that the regular rate is $26,000. The price for a top-tiered membership is almost $11,000 per year and $900 per month with all the amenities included.

The club will be open to new members who have been sponsored by current members. The criteria for joining the club in this tight-knit community are simple: you must share the same interests and desires as all other members. If new member applicants do not have sponsorships, they can be introduced through the club’s Hospitality Committee. They will then go on to complete their application with all of its stages, including sponsorship if they are eligible for one at this time in order to become full-fledged members.

According to a member of the GolfWRX.com forum thread, the annual dues for a junior membership is $5,500.

Regular

The Regular membership option gives access to all golf and social privileges of the club. Immediate family members are offered a monthly calendar that includes events for everyone in their immediate circle, including themselves.

Regular Family

The Regular Family membership gives you, your spouse, and any children who are younger than 21 years of age the opportunity to enjoy all of the club amenities. This includes golfing privileges as well.

House with Golf

With the House of Golf membership, you have limited access to the golf privileges during the golf season which starts in April and ends in October, but you have full golf access during the offseason. Social

The Social membership provides an exclusive environment for socializing, with no golf privileges. It allows a primary member and their spouse to enjoy all the social events in addition to hosting private functions at this exclusive club.

Junior

You can play golf and socialize with other members of this club. Junior membership is perfect if you’re between 21-35 years old. A Junior membership offers many benefits, including access to all facilities on-site.

Junior Family

The Junior Family membership is a great way for individuals between the ages of 21-35. It allows you and your spouse to enjoy unlimited golfing, as well as social events.

Upper Montclair Country Club details

The golf course at this prestigious club was originally designed by A.W Tillinghast but went through renovations done in partnership with Robert Trent Jones. He transformed it into one that has 27 championship golf holes including three different courses for professional golfers “The East Course, the West Course which is also known locally as “The Outlaw”, and the South. Besides the golf course, there are also other amenities including a short game facility/area, tennis courts, a pro shop, a clubhouse, an a la carte dining area, and a bar. Members of the club are able to enjoy multiple social events throughout the year.

What are the extra costs?

In order to participate in the social events that are held throughout the year, you will have to pay an additional charge.

Players of all levels can enjoy a variety of classes and clinics, as well as participate in events including tournaments after paying additional fees.

A food and beverage minimum will be required, but it’s currently unknown.

In case you do not have golfing privilege then you have to pay for the green fees.
