The aloe vera plant, which can be found in tropical climates around the world, is known for its medicinal properties. It also often finds itself planted as a potted indoor decoration.

How much does an aloe vera plant cost?

Aloe vera plants come in all shapes and sizes. They range from as little as $1 to upwards of a whopping $30. You can find small one-inch to five-inch pots at most local nurseries and retailers for about $5-$10 each; however, larger ones are more expensive with an average cost anywhere between $15 and $20.

Lowe’s and IKEA are two retailers that offer aloe vera plants in their nurseries. Lowe’s, for instance, has an 11-ounce plant available for about $4 while IKEA has a similar size at the same price point. From our research, we noticed that the closer to 12 – 17 inches high the higher these plants were priced as well, with prices typically ranging from $20-$40 per plant depending on where they were purchased. You can find these plants both locally, or online through web marketplaces like eBay.

If you’re looking to plant on your own, a seed mix can cost about $5-$10 per 25 seeds. Amazon currently has listings ranging from 10 dollars for an already planted three-inch potted plant up to 8 dollars for the packet of 25 seeds.

Any extra expenses to consider?

If your plant doesn’t come with a pot and you want it to grow well and live a long life, it’s recommended that you use cactus potting soil or any other type of standard potting soil. You will not need to fertilize the plants as they do well even without fertilizer when given proper care.

Important tips to remember

Aloe Vera Plant CostYou can find the aloe vera plant at many retailers, both online and in person. Some popular places you might be able to purchase a live one are Lowe’s, Home Depot, Walmart, or your local garden nursery. If purchasing on eBay sounds more up your alley then head over there for hundreds of listings that ship anywhere across the US.

If you want a plant to thrive in your yard, make sure it is planted where there will be enough sun and that it is spaced at least 24 inches from other plants. Indoor plants need a lot of light, just like outdoor ones need – so if possible, put them near a window with plenty of sunlight coming through. Most importantly: never overwater or allow water to stay on its soil for too much – itțs one of the easiest ways to damage the plant.

The aloe vera plant is good for usage in zone 10 and should be avoided where the temperature drops below 30 degrees Fahrenheit. Being succulent, it prefers dryer conditions since it’s water-stingy. If you want to pull a leaf off your plant and replant it, it will regrow. If the leaves are starting to curl up – this means they need more watering.

Is there any way to spend less?

You may be able to save a significant amount of money by purchasing plants online in bulk instead of paying for each individual plant. Planting seeds is time-consuming but can offer considerable savings if you want to keep things cheap.
