Brand History

Smokey Bones Menu ItemsThe history of Smokey Bones is very interesting, with many management changes and rebranding campaigns. Actually, this casual dining restaurant wasn’t so casual from the beginning. Instead, it used to be a barbeque restaurant that changed over time. The original concept of Smokey Bones was created by the publicly traded company Darden Restaurants. This company also owns the restaurant chains Longhorn Steakhouse and Olive Garden.

In 1997 Darden Restaurants wanted to build a sports bar type of restaurant and so appeared Smokey Bones. It was characterized by an Appalachian-inspired ambiance and Barbeque food items. The first Smokey Bones restaurant was located in Orlando, Florida.

In May 2007 Smokey Bones chain went through some changes. Darden had to choose between shutting down the franchise or selling it. Barbeque Integrated Inc., an affiliate of Sun Capital Partners, bought the franchise and so Smokey Bones was saved from obscurity.

This new owner brought some changes in order to attract more clients. One of these changes consisted of the new concept of the Bar and Fire Grill franchise, instead of the Barbeque franchise as it used to be. So, in 2008 almost everything was changed, from menu to uniforms.

Nowadays there are more than 60 Smokey Bones restaurants located all over the United States of America, in states such as Georgia, Florida, and Maryland.

 Our review

The Smokey Bones menu has changed a lot over time. Today there are some items that you should definitely try. These include the zesty barbequed ribs, the wings, and the seafood options. Customers just love the Fish and Chips, but also the Baby Back Ribs.

Compared to other similar restaurants, the Smokey Bones menu prices are a little higher. For instance, you will have to pay around $15 for a burger. One of the customers’ favorites is the Smokehouse burger, which is served with different options like toppings and bread. For a side option, you will have to pay around $5, and you will be able to choose between natural, cut fries, cinnamon apple, or others.

The franchise had some problems with hygiene as there were some reports of roaches in some locations. Also, the clients complained about the staff’s unprofessional behavior and the slow service. The restaurants tend to be the busiest on weekends and during lunch and dinner.

Besides all of these, customers like to come to Smokey Bones for the sports bar ambiance.
