Founded in 1936, Southern Hills Country Club is a private, member-owned country club that is located in Tulsa, Oklahoma. This private club is famous for its Championship Golf Course, which is recognized among the best-known one hundred courses in the entire world. Starting with 1945 it was the host of 17 Championships.

How Much Does a Southern Hills Country Club Membership Cost?

The cost of a full golf membership at Southern Hills Country Club in Tusla can be over $70,000 in the first year when factoring in the initiation fee, monthly dues, amenities fee, and minimums.

According to a public tax returns document from 2016, the Southern Country Club had 948 members and if we were to make some calculations, considering that the total membership dues were around $11 million, the annual costs for membership were around $11,700 or $975 per month. Obviously, these numbers are estimative and for an accurate price, you should contact the club directly.

From the golf.com website, we found that the initiation fee for the Southern Golf Club is $100,000, while the monthly dues are anywhere between $800 and $1,000. On the other hand, according to another website, golfmontly.com, the initiation fees would be anywhere between $30,000 and $130,000, without the annual dues.

Southern Hills Golf Club amenities

The Southern Hills Country Club was built on land donated by the multimillionaire oilman, Waite Philips. He was asked by Cecil Canary and Bill Warren to sponsor the creation of a family-oriented country club, which would include a golf course, a swimming pool, a clubhouse, a stable, tennis courts, horseback trails, a skeet range, and a polo field.

Southern Hills Country Club, established in 1935 and opened in 1936, boasts a course masterminded by Perry Maxwell. Over the years, Maxwell’s creation has been the esteemed host of numerous major golf championships, being recognized among the top 100 courses, and comprising five PGA Championships and four U.S. Opens.

The best golf club in Tulsa was designed by the architects Donald McCormick and John Duncan Forsyth in “English country manor” style and was opened on October 17, 1936. Perry Maxwell designed the 18-hole golf course and in 1999, it was renovated by Keith Foster. The most recent renovation of this course was done in 2018 by Gil Hanse. The course is famous for its many doglegs right and left holes and a large number of bunkers. Also, in 1992 the 9-hole West Course golf course was designed by Ben Crenshaw.

Full golf members can book tee times up to 30 days in advance. Tee times can be booked online or by calling/emailing the golf shop. Guest play is accommodated but members get top priority for reservations.

This club features the common facilities of a country club such as tennis courts, extensive banqueting facilities, diving and swimming pools, and a fitness center. Also, the Southern Hills Country Club offers tennis personal training and swimming instruction.

The Tennis Facility includes four lighted indoor hard courts, two lighted clay courts, and six lighted outdoor hard courts. At the Tennis Clubhouse, you will find a fully equipped Tennis Pro Shop as well.

The Swimming Facilities feature a Fun Pool which is equipped with umbrellas, so you can be protected against the sun while playing, a zero-gravity entry side, two slides, and a basketball goal. Also, it includes a 25-meter lap pool and a dive tank with 3-meter and one-meter boards. Moreover, the facilities include a deck area for dining and relaxing, a snack bar, and a bathhouse.

The club also offers its members access to a Health and Wellness Center that includes weight and cardio equipment, personal training, exercise and yoga classes, physical therapy, massage therapy, and Pilates. Their clean facility and friendly staff make it a great environment to exercise and stay in shape.

The Southern Hills Country Club is one of the most exclusive courses in the United States. It was the host of some of the most prestigious sports tournaments like four PGA Championships and three US Open.

What are the additional expenses?

Members and guests of a member who don’t have golf privileges will be responsible for the green fees. Also, guest golfers are allowed to play only when they are accompanied by a playing member.

A food and beverage minimum fee will be applied, which should be paid every month and every quarter.
