Brand History

McAlister’s Deli was founded in 1989 by the retired dentist Dr. Don Newcomb. The first restaurant was located in Oxford, Mississippi, in a renovated gas station. In 1999, McAlister’s company was purchased by executive Philip Friedman and CEO Michael J. Stack. At that time, McAlister’s Deli already had 45 company-owned and franchised locations in the Southeast area of the United States.

In 2005, McAlister’s Deli was sold to Roark Capital Group and by then around 170 restaurants were already opened in nineteen states.
