Oakmont Country Club was founded in 1903 by the designer Henry Clay Fownes and is one of the oldest private clubs in America. It is located in the Allegheny River Valley close to the northeast suburbs of Plum and Oakmont in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

With a history of over a decade, the club prides itself on a renowned world-class golf course which was consistently ranked alongside August and Pebble Beach.

Oakmont CC hosted numerous major golf tournaments like eight U.S. Open tours, five U.S. Amateurs, three PGA Golf Championships, and two U.S. Women’s Opens.

How Much Does an Oakmont Country Club Membership Cost?

The cost of an Oakmont Country Club membership starts from $37,000 up to $75,000 for the initiation fee and annual fees stand between $5,500 and $12,000.

According to the Country Club Prices, for the homeowners, the initiation fee is estimated to be $75,000 and the annual dues are around $13,000. But even if you are not a golf enthusiast, the other amenities, like the tennis courts, will be well worth the cost to enjoy hobbies as the Oakmont Country Club was voted the fourth-best country club in the United States of America.

Even though you might know the right people it is hard to become a member of Oakmont Country Club as it is one of the most exclusive golf clubs in the United States of America. If you want to become a member of this club, just like with other prestigious golf clubs, you will need multiple personal references, preferably from very successful people, and sponsorship from current members of the club who are in good standing.

According to an ESPN article, there is a one-time golf membership fee which is around $80,000 and the monthly dues are around $1,000.

Oakmont Country Club Amenities

Oakmont Country Club has the mission to offer its members and guests premier dining, social, and golfing experiences in a family-friendly atmosphere.

The size of the 18-hole golf course is 7255 yards from the longest tees and has a slope rating of 147. Besides the access to the golf courses, the club has for golfers practice facilities with a driving range, putting greens, lessons, and club fittings.

The clubhouse organizes many social events throughout the year in which members can take part, such as theme parties, holiday festivities, prestigious golf tournaments, and even private events.

As for the dining experience, you can enjoy fine dining and formal dining, as there are three options to choose from: the Terrace Grill, the Main Dining Room, and the Member’s Grill. For a spectacular view of the mountains and the golf course, you can dine at their Terrace Café. Also, for a quick bite, there is a Snack Bar with a wide range of options. And, if you want to take a break from swimming, you can enjoy a drink at the Splash Café.

Oakmont  Club has a professionally equipped exercise room to offer for the members who want to work out. There you can find personal training, balancing equipment, stretching mats, cardio and weight machines, and free weights. The fitness center is closed only on Christmas Day.

The club offers yoga classes as well, to help you balance your body and mind.

The outdoor pool is open from April until November. There is a wading pool as well, which can be used by children under four.

What are the extra costs?

If you would like to bring a guest with you to the Oakmont CC then he or she will have to pay a guest fee of around $250.

You are only allowed to tip the locker room and bag room attendants.

In addition to fees, members pay for cart fees, guest fees, lesson programs, merchandise, and more on an a la carte basis.

Important things to consider

According to the Golf Vacation Insider website, you can still play on the golf course of the Oakmont Country Club even if you are not a member. You can do it by trying your hand at a sweepstake if one is active and available, or by playing a charity golf outing.

The Oakmont Country Club has certain rules regarding the use of a cell phone, speed of play, and the dress code. All of these can be found on their official website.

At the prestigious Oakmont CC in Oakmont, Pennsylvania, a strict dress code is enforced. Men are expected to wear collared shirts and either slacks or Bermuda shorts when on the golf course or inside the clubhouse, as jeans, cargo shorts, or athletic wear are not permitted. Women’s attire should include shirts with collars or sleeves, as well as skirts, slacks, or shorts of appropriate length. Proper golf shoes are a must on the course, with no metal spikes allowed. For evening dining, men are required to wear jackets, and ties may be necessary to meet the club’s formal standards.

According to the Golf.com website, the signature aspect of the Oakmont Country Club is the church pew bunkers on the 3rd and 4th holes.
